    Alnico vs. Ferrit

    Hey,

    I know this has been discussed several times, but I´m not aiming a sounddiscussion.

    I remember a friend telling me, that the alnico-drivers are more prone to heat-damage than the ferrit-drivers.
    So if someone blew a diaphragm caused by an overload from the amp, what would happen ?
    Could I just swop in a new dia and everything is fine ?
    Or will the alnico-magnet loose magnetstrength whereas the ferrit stays strong!?

    Thanks a lot,
    Olaf

    Thanks a lot, what a great article!!

    So far I understood, that Alnico is more heat stable which means it has less distortions in music reproduction when it runs hot.
    Ferrit will not sound as smooth as Alnico when getting hot.
    But Alnico is susceptible to demagnetization when being overpowered. Ferrit not.

    In simple words;
    Alnico sounds better & more stable at high levels.
    Ferrit is more dureable and will not be damaged e.g. demagnetised.
