JBL 2405 Diaphragm

Hi,


I need some new dias for my 2405.
The original JBL D16R2405 cost about 180$ each, is there an cheaper equalent to these ?
I know radian build some very nice dias for the 2"-drivers which sound as good as the original. But I haven´t found something that good for the slots...

Anyone has an idea and experience

Yes, been there. Bought a pair of bargain-basement "aftermarket" which I found performed accordingly: poor response (nothing much above 10K) and reduced output compared to genuine JBL of old. So, that project is still on hold. It's an expensive commitment for a pair of diaphragms and have not yet found any solution. Good luck, keep us posted! MM

The "2 Radians does not sound like genuine JBL dia's, they have a smoother, softer sound. I found mine to be oxidizing, 1 year after purchase...

Don't bother with aftermarket 2405 dia's. You can buy a nice used pair of 2405's for less.

Yes, and don't forget your Strength of Materials class: any diaphragms work harden with use and ultimately fail. Physics. In fact, I'd say that $186 per is a pretty good price (or was that Euros?). There really is only one choice.

Until now I´ve just read positive feedback to the radians....
Ok, they do not sound like the originals, but I always heard good evaluations about their build quality....

Hi Dr.db,

If You prefer to use JBL drivers, then ONLY original D16R2405 is acceptable sonic solution, but if You can accept some non JBL drivers, I think that Beyma CP21F ( ring radiator with slot-like horn,

1120 U$D per piece) can be a good "approximation" of 2405.

My fear with buying used 2405 drivers is, that their dias had been taken abuse over 30years and I cannot tell their condition.

So I have to go with the original, new dias.
Maybe I should hurry to get them, who knows if JBL will produce them much longer.
