    2205 to 2235 conversion

After searching extensively here and elsewhere I'm fairly certain that my 2205 cores will serve as 2235s when reconed.
JBL Canada says that kit will work with the 2225 but can't seem to answer definitively about the 2205 conversion.

Can anyone here please verify that the motors are the same? Has anyone performed this conversion successfully?

    Thanks much!

    Don't thinks so

I thought 2205 was not compatible with anything else.

    I could be wrong though.

Are your 2205 in need of a recone? I was tempted to do the same with a perfectly good pair of 2225. In the end I didn't have the heart to destroy an excellent pair of JBL 15 inch woofers. Luckily JBL have a few pair of new 2235H available. There are many blown 2225 and 2235 needing a recone available. The 2205 & 2225 are worth holding onto if you ever want to build a second system. Just my $.02

One of the pair needs recone and the other measures/feels ok though I haven't listened to it other than with a tone generator.

They will be going into some 4430s replacing some 2234s that currently reside there.

Question. Why replace the 2234's in your 4430's with something that is not going to be the same?

Because the 4430s came with 2235s. Also, the 2234s may work great in another system I'm thinking of building.

If one needs a recone you'll have to do both for equal sound.

Yep. That's the plan. I'll have to tear up the 'better' one.

Well if you want to keep the 2234's for another project, you are better off buying a pair of 2225's from Ebay. Recone them as 2235's. They are cheap enough.

    This^.

While 2205's are equivalent physically the AlNiCo magnet assembly tends to lose charge in high power situations. If you have them charged up they will sound "identical" to the ferrite version, but may suffer demag in loud situations...

Well the 2235 cone kit has no problem living within a 2205 frame and the specs will be the same if the magnet is recharged to spec. However, Alnico verses Ferrite, they will sound different.

Sorry. I should have specified that they're the ferrite versions of the 2205, not the 2205A.
