    Ultra-High Frequency Transducer(s)

    2402, 2404 and 2405.

    I own a pair of each. I am confused.

    The first time I listened to the 075, the civilian version of the 2402, it was coupled with a D130 crossed over at 2500 Hz in a C-34 Scoop, a two way system. 2500 Hz is not Ultra-High Frequency.

    I also own a pair each of 2123, 2118 and 2108 midrange drivers. By today’s standards I do not see how to pair any of these midrange drivers with any of the Ultra-High Frequency Ring Transducers and have a smooth on and off axis (power response) transition from midrange to tweeter.

    Does the brain trust see mating a cone midrange with one of the Ultra-High Frequency Ring Transducers?

    People have... I'd like to see a large or medium format compression driver and appropriate horn in there.

    JBL did it with the 4315 monitor although I never heard one. I have built a custom centre channel using a 2404 above a pair of Le-5's and it does sound pretty nice.

    Well, the 4315 didn't cross the 2108 directly over to the 2405, they used a 2105 as an upper midrange driver there. Most of the designs still used a mid-upper horn or cone midrange to allow a higher transition. There were very few direct transitions from 8 inch mid-bass or midrange drivers.

    The 4612 and many of the Caberet speakers of that era crossed a 2118 to the 2404, but that's in a PA environment. Admittedly, the 4612 sounds pretty good though. The 2123 usually had a horn above it with the 2405 on top.

    IIRC, the problem for the 072/2405 at lower crossover frequencies was the power handling and output. Given older designs, they weren't expecting to be able to push much power out there to fry them but it happened a lot anyway. Later designs using the ring radiators seemed to typically cross them above 7K with an appropriate upper mid driver transition.
