Question Surround speakers to match 2226 + 2453 fronts?

    Hi.
As the title says, I have a system based around 2226 woofers (15") and 2453 compression drivers (4" voice coils and 1.5" throat) at the front, with a pair of 2245 (18") sub-woofers.
I have a pair of 2405 slot tweeters, not yet connected, if I install Truextent dia's I may skip these.
Now to build surrounds that match in timbre, even if the result is overkill on SPL capacity.
I have a pair of 2332 horns from the old DMS studio monitors and 2432 (3" VC & 1.5" throat) compression drivers for them.
That dictates a crossover around 1.2 kHz, just a little above the 2226 comfort zone.
I would also prefer a smaller box than the 2226 requires.
So the question is what woofers, the obvious choices are the 2206 (12") or a 14" similar to what the DMS had.
The 1400 Nd seems practically unobtainable so my options would be 1400-PRO or 2217, both have similar Thiele Small and should work equally well.
I have considered some of the less efficient options like 128 and 252 (12") but they seem a poor match to the compression drivers.
Apart from the obvious, that these are not old style dipole surrounds, any recommendations or ideas?
Any sources for a pair of drivers also welcome.

    David

That's in the ballpark of what I plan but JBL stuff is thin on the market in Australia.
So the chance to find a specific box is pretty low, and too expensive to ship from overseas.
So I look for a couple of drivers, still expensive to ship but tolerable, and build here.
That's why I posted in the DIY forum
Plus I have to make the cabinets fit specific dimensions to recess them between frame timbers.

    Best wishes

I would say that as long as you are happy with your subs then I would probably look to the 2206 because of availability and repair. It is a very capable transducer with less "Obtain-ability" issues.

It IMO has some very nice mid low-mid detail that is quite pleasing to my ears.

There have been more than a few projects that have used the 2206 down to the 70's where they were perceived as a very good driver for the intended range. Besides that is a really good platform, same as the 2226.

These are however just my opinions.

    Always fun learning more.......

Couple of 2245 in 10 cubic foot cabinets, so I'm happy with my subs.
And the 2206 does look to be the preferred option.
Nice match to the 2226 technically and, reportedly, in sound.
The others probably are too but the 2206 looks a little flatter frequency response.
Practically indestructible in this application and should have spare part availability indefinitely.
Pity they don't make 2206G, the voice coil seems identical to the 2226 so should be possible.
Unless I read some extraordinary revelation I think that's the plan.
Any one have a pair of 2206H for sale?

    Best wishes

    one half inch

the 2217 is the same coil also - and it's a square(ish) frame so you can get a tighter baffle.

    it's OD is 12.75 inches - the 2206 is 12.25
