    Jbl 2226J 16ohm

Are these any good for 2-way monitors and which driver you would suggest ?

I know these wont go very low, but still there would be that Jbl sound for good $.

Out of the box, the 2226 will sound like s..t if you expect monitor/home quality. It needs some processing. Apply a BP filter centered at 35Hz or 40HZ with a Q=1.0 and a major boost. Try 9db to 12db. This is by how much the 2226 is deficient down low. Obvioulsy don't expect much 20-30Hz. This is not the driver for that. It is a sound reinforcement driver for me.

I use my 2226h crossed at 700Hz to a 2360 horn for home duty.

Thanks Lee -- I've had a similar experience to your impressions of the 2226J. Mine are in 4 cu ft. enclosure tuned to 45 Hz. In MiniDSP I am adding a peak filter @ 40 Hz + 5 dB Q 1. And I am also shelving down the 2226J -3 dB at 200 Hz, so I'm pretty close to your recommendation.

I have them crossed over to 2445Js at 700 Hz in 250 Hz Tractrix horns at 12 dB/octave.

My room has a really bad mode at 40 Hz so I have to contend with, but I've been pretty happy with this setup for home use.

Once the initial shock of having to heavily process the 2226 has passed, I think it becomes a very nice driver for home that welcomes experimentation. In this case, digital crossovers rule. I love the tight sound of the 2226. As this driver can take a lot of power, boosting the bottom end is not a problem. It is difficult to end up out of excursion, unless used for movies maybe.

As for the Q, I think it depends on personal tastes. Could be 0.9 (more midrange) to 1.1 (sounds deeper). Then comes the choice of picking a 16 Ohms driver versus 8 Ohms. I guess it depends if somebody wants to use two 2226 per cabinet. That could help with efficiency to match those darn compressors ;-)

BTW I also have a 2245 sub that I only use from time to time as I learned to enjoy the dryer sound of the 2226 with its lack of bottom octave. Actually, I don't miss much of it. It is surprising.

This winter, if I have some time, I'll build a set of 11cft enclosures to house two 2226 in each. Too many projects this winter, including riding North Africa by motorcycle ;-)

BTW I love two way systems. So much simpler. One single crossover frequency to tune and mess with... ;-)

This morning I eliminated an annoying ringing from the 2226 by crossing over at 600Hz instead of 700Hz. The 2360 horns can easily go down to 600Hz. Also usin Q=1.1 for less upper bass.

Ditto that. I tried to add the low frequency segment of my 4345 (2245H) to my 4530 scoop, but time and again, I still prefer the scoop by itself, sure it lacks bass below 40 hz, initially I was devastated because I was trying to compare it with the 4345, but taking advice from this good forum, I let me ears get used to the cleaner/different presentation of the rear folded horn of the 4530's bass, now I don't really miss the bass extension.

I use 2226 woofers in 4560 cabinets together with 2445 drivers on 2360 horns. I use 3115a x-overs and the results are absolutely great. sometimes I have 2404 on top.
The 2226 has outperformed K140, E130, E140 and several others in my system.

There are lots variations to try. Like others here I have been matching and mixing the combinations. Some program material really does need a dedicated driver for the bottom end. The 2226 is not a subwoofer.

I have tried the 2226 in a 2.6 ft3 box tuned to 53hz and a 2206 in a 1.03 ft3 box tuned to 66hz. For acoustic guitar with vocals they are both same same, they are both great, you cannot tell them apart. For electric bass they both need a sub, perhaps a little more so for the 2206. Assuming the use of a sub my strong preference is the much smaller 1 ft3 cabinet 2206. I like the fit and feel of the smaller box in my listening room much better.

For 2-way top end there are not too many choices, they are all compression drivers and horns. I have tried a 2425 driver with a couple different horns. For all out I like the 2450 driver with 2382A horn attached.

For my listening room I like what I am running now; 2206 woofer, 2118 mid and 2425 driver with Eighteen sound XT1086 horn attached. There is a single 2245 sub.

Forgot to say that for music I don't use a sub, but for movies I have a DIY sub with a Magnat 21" agressor 5000 woofer. Works very well with the 2226/2445 top

The 2226 is a woofer that needs rediscovering for home duty. With some processing, it can do a lot. Let's look at JBL's M2. Digital processing is no longer a dirty word ;-)

There's a pair available locally at an attractive price. Will they bolt right into an L200? A 50Hz rolloff works fine for me.

The opening is compatible with all old pro 15" woofers like 2205, 2220, 2225, 2235 etc
if you have a digital crossover for some processing, it can definitely sound great. I rarely use the 2245 sub now that I have nailed the proper eq curves. ;-)
