Jbl k-145

Hi everyone!

Just for curiosity wich woofer has the sound quality of the K-145 but can go lower (say around 25Hz)? I love my woofer alot!

lots of it. Especially pile organ music. You can't forget beat nots created by chords too. They can make some low notes.


A piano also goes below that too.

I listen to a wide variety of music and it is used also for films or live dvd shows.

My guess with the 4,5 cubic feet (original Jbl plans) they go around 45Hz at best. I can add eq (passing through MBox with PT LE and Waves eq) and this gives me deeper bass than they normally do but I have to be careful about bottoming. They are driven by a modified Crown DC-300 (210W/ch/8ohms)

Where are you crossing it at the high end?

Can you describe what you mean by the "sound quality" of the K145?

It is crossed at 800Hz with a stock JBL passive xover.

I like the kwickness and the cleaniness of the bass but I would like it to go about an octave lower. I know that AE woofers could do it but I'm not shure about the "tone" of this woofer (TD-15M/TD-15H+)

No one can really be sure of the tone of a speaker without listening to it. The best you'll be able to manage is to look up 3rd party measurements & reviews of the woofer in question from sources you trust.
That said: I've been to their facility a number of times in Green Bay and am impressed by how much in house work they do in such a small shop. I own some of their passive radiators and I love them

Are you planning in using the same cabinet? What size is it?

I know that woofer has a reputation for "great bass," but I'm not so sure about linearity. It may be there is not another woofer you would like as well.

There may be some woofers that will give you another half octave and still be acceptable at 800Hz (JBL 2234, TAD 1601B, Altec 515b), but I believe you will be trading snap for VLF to some degree or other AND using a larger cabinet in any case. Perhaps you should consider a subwoofer or a second woofer in parallel from 100hz down, choosing a heavier coned, looser suspensioned helper woofer ala the UREI 813 cabinets.

Maybe the fact that the K151 is underhung and the lightness of the cone and its quite rigid suspension makes that snappy sound.

A good sub coule well do it while bolcking the port for better transition.
