Looking for the great JBL 4425/4430

    Hello there!

This is my first post on this forum and I hope it is in the right subdirectory.
Last weeks I have been mixing in a studio with a lot of vintage gear and monitoring on the 4430's,
The reference of the monitors was very clear and objective and I really liked it.
Because the speakers were made a couple of years ago they are not really sold around here (NL).
Does anyone here has these speakers and is willing to sell them? I am very interested and thankful.

    Thanks in advance!
    Casper

The 4430 was manufactured from 1981 to 1995.
    The Woofer is a 2235H
The compression drivers are depending on the year of 2421H, 2425H or 2426H
    The horn is a 2344 or 2344A

    Welcome to the audioheritage forums.

There's usually a pair for sale somewhere on the planet at any given time. Here's a pair in the Los Angeles area. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251615132484 But that's kind of inconvenient.

I found another pair listed that's probably close enough to pick up with your bicycle. Check your private messages.

You might have to make two trips though.
    I control the treble.
    I control the bass.

    Thanks for both tips!
Maybe the Ebay link is going to do it!

There is a pair of 4425's on Ebay.de now but they ask a lot, €1499:

    The Frenchies want €1999:
    http://www.ebay.fr/itm/TRES-RARE-ENC...item20d413ef09

I bet I saw them going for <€1000!

IMHO the 4425 is nowhere near the 4430 in any department.

    Stéphane, are you being sarcastic?
Based on thread title the OP is looking for either a 4425 or 4430, but what he heard and liked was a pair of 4430, and all the links that have been given to him are for 4425 speakers.
    Just sayin'...

They sound similar but the 4430 is just a lot better, simple as that.
The 2214H is not a bad woofer but the 2416H in the 4425 can't touch the 2421/2425.

Seriously I have yet to see a pair of 4430 in the Netherlands(you can make it - Western Europe) and I check for JBL ads daily.

I'd say the exact opposite: the 2416H-1 vs 2425H is the only thing comparable between the two speakers

    EDIT 2416, thanks Martin

I assume you know that the 4425 has 2416

4430 started with 2421A but afaik they switched to 2425 at some point.

Yes my bad, that's a typo.

The 2416H-1 has the same diaphragm and phasing plug as a 2425H.
The back chamber is smaller, but I don't think this makes that of a difference.

Hmm, I had both drivers here but the 2425 just felt so much better

My understanding is that the 2416 has a smaller back cup, and no bolt-on snout for mounting that way, and that's it for the differences. The smaller back cup made it more suitable for systems using smaller horns with higher cutoff frequencies, trading 500-1000hz efficiency for 1000-1500 (rough approximations).
