LE8T and replacing foam surround what if question

I have actually purchased two foam surround kits for the LE8T drivers that I am working on. They were both advertised as being for this driver. One, if I install the surround inner edge as designed on the underside of the cone, will leave perhaps just a "sliver" to glue to frame. Too small imo. The other one seems just way too big. My what if question is this. The one that seems too small appears that it would work better with the foam surround glued on top of the cone. If that was done, what would be the negative consequences?
