Just home from the Canby Record Show. New location in a school gym ,but very crowded.
Lugged (literately ) 31+ LP's (2 of them boxed sets) in my shoulder bag.

Some really nice buys and I ONLY buy from the $1 boxes. 21 will go to my son (media mail is cheap) and 10 for me. Ran into many old friends, it was like a reunion.

Look forward to it, too bad it's only once a year.

Shure Exits the Phono Cartridge Business

    .
    https://www.analogplanet.com/content...dge-business-0

In recent years, the ability to maintain our exacting standards in the Phonograph Cartridge product category has been challenged, resulting in cost and delivery impacts that are inconsistent with the Shure brand promise.

In light of these conditions, and after thorough evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue production of Shure Phono products effective Summer 2018.

Manufactured on limited edition opaque blue 180-gram vinyl, features the 2015 remaster by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Mastering Studio and a “red star of the federation” hologram in Side 2 run-out groove. Only 5,000 copies are available worldwide

Fremer visits Munich 2018. Lots of T/T's

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxk0m2h3Vw0

A long watch. Thing that sticks in my mind is how this self appointed guru and night watchman of all things hi fi cannot organize his audio recording to be at least intelligible.
Ironically early on he wanders past the Beyer Dynamic stand , they do rather good mics.
In the middle we see Desperate Dan with his new amp claiming that it is the only amp with truly balanced topology. Utter flim flam , you can almost hear Fremer drooling.

Other than that an interesting vid. There is a part 2 that I have yet to watch.

The thing is the turnover of hi end is minuscule compared to the publishing industry that reports on it.

Hi end Audio is the only luxury industry with zero growth.

As for Dan well he must think we are all borne the moment he comes out with a new rehash of everyone else’s ideas.

I would much prefer to see a report on OMA but l don’t think they do hi end shows...

Well Ian , that show looks to have been very well attended by exhibitors and public. I don't remember anything of that scale back in the day (1873 )

Here's a couple of pics just for grins.

on the RHS of the plinth you can see an oblong slot on the top edge. It was for the stay that held the lid up. The lid was sourced from Goldring Lenco.

Well l prefer less attitude, less bs and more facts when it comes to audio reproduction.

I don’t think l am alone on that point.

Ask an exhibitor what leads from a show converted into sales?

It’s about networking, branding and awareness for those of us who have stood around for 3 days with aching feet.

Unfortunately Hi End Audio was reported as a flop this year at the CES as published in Aust HiFi. Go figure.
