Hello!

I would know your thoughts about the suitability of vintage Altec tube gear in modern audio set ups. I found in Japanese sites many hi level systems with Altec old mono tubed amps. By the way this old stuff is highly sought after by audiophiles in many antique audio shop in Japan market. Does it have a certain reason to utilize such old equipment, even refurbished, in today hi-fi and even hi-end chains?

Actually having tried several exotic MC cartridges with passive step-up I would be tempted to utilize for instance a pair of Altec 1566A as active tubed pre-preamp for vinyl reproduction... Is this a good idea or these gears are just nice pieces of audio history?

Thanks!

Guglielmo
