4333 Enclosures, genuine factory, licensed production or .....

    Hi guys

I'm selling my pair of 4333.
I assume that the enclosures are genuine factory, or at least professionally made.
A potential buyer claims that they are made by a local carpenter shop here in DK in the late 70's

    How to tell ?

Over the years i've seen a lot of garage diy's, and there's a big difference to my boxes.

They are veneered, but the previous owner had them painted.

(The original midrange drivers/horns/lenses will be installed.)

    W 60,3 cm
    D 51,4 cm
    H 76,2 cm

    Midrange cutout 10,8 cm
Inner diameter of reflex port is 10,2
    Porth depth is 9,5 cm

Take better pictures in more detail and post them here.

Either clean your phone-camera lens or get a real camera and take shots of the back and inside, if you can.

    Good luck.

Factory 4333 would have a JBL tag on the back (4502...?), which could have been lost...

L-pad holes, screw holes, Foil-cal (seem to be missing)

posts for grille (in addition to the velcro-like tabs in the corners)

fairly distinct hole/access panel for mid-horn driver (can't see)

stock grill did not extend past the top/bottom protruding "shelf"

... all of these things could have been stripped/modified, and there's nothing
to say that the cabinets are not fine as-is, but each change makes it harder to show
    originality.

    FYI

that is called "lens flare" and is caused by a stronger "back light" .... even "real cameras" will do the same thing in the same situation.

So, all of the following is just my opinion... I am not an appraiser nor do I claim to represent JBL,
or any potential buyer or seller of this equipment:

I think it's reasonable to say that they were made to a fairly professional standard,
possibly using some information from JBL plans or other documentation.

There is so much that is not, or is no longer "factory" ... to claim they are original JBL
cabinets, without some documented history of modifications, would be quite a stretch.

I bet they sound great anyway

That might account for the horrible exposure at the top, but not the blurry image and lack of definition over all.

    But thanks for sharing.

Those aren't real JBL cabinets IMO, and that sure looks like schmutzy lens syndrome to me.
