    Demagnetize on recone?

How important is it to have a speaker demagnetized when reconing? Thanks, Bill

It depends. Ferrites do not have to be re-maged. The alnico's are the ones you might have to worry about. Any of the underhung alnico woofers/mids as well as the compression drivers should be OK. Any long coil alnico like a 2231 or a 123A may need a recharge depending on how hard the driver was driven.

Rob is referring to remagging to bring them back up to their original gauss spec. As for the original question, no the driver does not need to be demagnetized to properly recone it.
