JBL 5234 crossover - quick question

Hi

I'm being stupid but can someone confirm, is the 5234 frequency splitter (crossover) a line level or speaker level device? e.g. is it designed to go BEFORE the amplifier or AFTER?

I'm guessing it goes before (e.g. I need two amps, one for lows, one for highs) but I'm just checking
