    part2 where to mount 075-077

I have put the 077 at the bottom of the horn after listening to it mounted at both top and bottom, the 077 sounded better there, than I started wondering what it would sound like if I mounted 2 077's,one on top and one on the bottom,it sounded very clear, but than I got out the 075's and mounted the 077 on top and the 075 on the bottom and the sound to me was
amazing,I could walk around the room and it all sounded great,I'm still working on the mounting plates that will go on the top of the horns, but I did take a picture ,and will up date when I get it finished, Giskard to answer your question, yes I have all of the drivers already

    jblwolf,

You were going to compare the 075 and 077. Do you have any impressions that you would care to share at this point?

I opted to mount the 077 on the top of the horn, and the 075 on the bottom of the horn, after playing around with this combo(I also tryed a 076 but didnt make much of a difference, its output was drowned out by both the 075 or 077)I found the desired sound I was looking for, just using one driver just wasnt getting it,with the 075 on the bottom it seemed to just blend in to the output of the horn and adding the 077 on top seemed to really open up the sound stage when I walked around the room,I only have the weekends to do the woodworking,so I still have to finish the mounting board for the extra driver on the top of the horn, plus still work on the sub and the rear channels-----but the sound of "do it yourself JBL"cant match the finished in the box JBL I have had before but thats just my opinion.

Taking a look through the lens of the "Way Back" machine I remember feeling the need for twin 077s to blend properly with my LE15A, LX5, LE85, N8000, 077 system. I read and reread the catalogs and just wasn't happy with the high end. I bought another pair of 077s and it did indeed get brighter sounding, but I still wasn't "THERE" . Next I built custom crossovers and after weeks of tweaking sold all four of the JBL crossovers and the extra pair of 077s. After a year or two I became dissatisfied with the midrange but that is a tale for another day...

If the upper and under dueling ring radiators is working for you that is great, it does make me wonder though.

You might be interested in this picture. Here is George Augspurger pointing out the monitor system he designed for Sunset Sound Studio One. It uses two 2405's (077's) mounted vertically. The original installation had the tweeters at the opposite bottom corners. This was less than satisfactory and was changed to the current configuration that has been used for over a decade.

    I am still wondering...

    Hi Don,

Did anyone ever mention the idea behind this configuration? I could certainly see why this would be better than in the corners, but a single pair can get ear bleed loud, and stacked tweeters is usually used to lower vertical dispersion, not an issue with the 077/2405.

I believe it was done to get similar output from the 2405's and the 2441's powering the midrange horn. I didn't ask, but I suspect that the system is biamped with a custom passive cross-over for the three mid/high drivers.

what I find interesting is the differents in equipment used to power the speakers, just changing tube brands on my mc30's makes a big differances, that also goes for s.s.equipment too.I also have at least 20 different preamps/amps and they all sound different to me.some great, some very bad,I guess what it comes do to is personal choice.
