    Can a 2202 serve as a sub?

....building a smaller system with 4312 monitors for a TV room and I do not have a lot of space for an 18" sub. I'm contemplating using a 2202 with a Class G plate amp - say 250W. Will this work OK? ...the current set up w/o any sub definitely is lacking some punch in the low end. Thx..

No, not enough xmax so even heavy EQ would not help.
Reconing it with a 2203 or 121 kit would be a solution but... those kit are NLA.

You would be better off with any long excursion cheap woofer from parts express.
The 12" Dayton subs used in some ocean way monitors are said to be good, and not too expensive.

    Short answer: no

there are quite a few turnkey solutions (jbl and otherwise) that would be vastly superior as a subwoofer.

You might want to re-read the 2202 specs for intended use. Perhaps you meant 2203?

    The short answer: No.
Do a Google on 'JBL 2202H' and look for the PDF of the Specifications OR go to this sites 'Library' in the page header.

So how about re-conning it with this aftermarket kit: http://reconingspeakers.com/product/...iy-recone-kit/

As always where's the mass ring?? If you have a clean and working 2202 pass it on to someone who needs it. Not like you can get those kits. Plenty of other better 12's out there for sub duty.

JBL "subs" are "awesome" BUT, they are "BIG"! The speakers in them are designed to move a "lot" of air - and they need room themselves in which to work there best. I think the 'smallest subwoofer' would be the B380, JBL made for home use?? and it uses a 15"....

    LE-14 variants

Works well in a smaller cab and sound great and most articulate sub I ever heard. I had the LE-14-1 in older L55 cab.

Many other candidates out there that work in smaller cabs, depends on how much output you desire for LF reproduction.

    Good Luck in your search.
