    New cabinets for my K10A's

I'm having some new cabinets built for my BTH K10A's

Steve who's constructing them for me is doing a magnificent job. Steve has based them on design similar to a rectangular Tannoy GRF but scaled up to meet his design calcs for the drivers As of yesterday one was up and running and Steve undertook some frequency sweeps.

Cabinet stained, waxed and awaiting polishing and full length grille

    Fron to K10A & Crossover

Rear -As you can see the bass driver is a UK version of the Jensen 18"

The frequency curves below have no correction applied

Full sweep at the listening position. Bass is reasonably flat to 20HZ

Cabinet with LP for size comparison. Weight is approx 95 Kg each

Steves hoping to have the other one up and running today so he can take some measurements of the stereo pair.

Slight frequency rise at 1.7kHz has been smoothed by reversing the polarity of the HF. This plot was taken 1m away from the speaker. Plot at listening position is now amazingly flat for coaxial without eq

Wow, those drivers are pretty rare aren't they? How's the performance? The response looks pretty good. Probably better then a 604 on the bottom.

What are you going to move the cones with? Hollow state I hope.

Yes, they are not easy to come by. I haven't heard them in the new cabinets yet as they won't be back with me until Sunday because they weigh circa 220 lb each which means using a provessional delivery service.

I've got a choice of a few tube amps but will probably get the old BTH amp I have serviced and use that. It's similar to a Leak stero 20 with EL84 tubes. To test them teve was using single ended EL84 amps.

This is what they look lite will the grilles

That's a really nice looking pair of cabinets!
I do like the look - but personally prefer wood against black cloth columns ...

I did consider Black but as the drivers date from the mid 50's I wanted a more retro look.

They arrived back today and I'm more than pleased with the craftsmanship and the integration of the bass horn with the HF. The bass goes lower than any other speaker I've owned and there is not the slightest hint of boom in my room.

The pic here indicates the size of these new cabinets next to my Westrex & JBL speakers.
