Hi,
I think that a kid of sending has been done with the phase-plug, so it would be interesting to see it after , say 6 months, and some kid of rust color is visible in the horn near the throat.

Great find moray james! Do you guys have any idea how these drivers have change in subsequent versions? Phase plug geometry, etc...

To the best of my knowledge they have had no changes through their life, which might be at an end. I don't see either the 2446 or 2447 in the current catalog.

But wouldn't you agree Barry, that much of the improvement in these CD's is in weight and size, which doesn't necessarily improve the sound.

Yup the big deal is the weight and physical size. As far as supersede, not for a decade at least. Take the (if I remember correctly) a series like Venue, JBL offered virtually the same speaker systems with either ferrite or Neo and you paid a premium for the weight reduction, no surprise. Later when the SRX line was discontinued it was replaced with (VTX?, the SR stuff is not my strong point) a light weight Neo line, shortly thereafter came the Neo shortage/cost increase and all of a sudden there was another (new) line with ferrite drivers again like the 2206, 2226, 2241 and 2242. Suddenly those of us with a bunch of heavy old ferrite drivers could be someone again haha.

Its been interesting to see the evolvement of the Neo pro woofers. On the other hand, the newer AlNiCo drivers like the 1500Al series are absolutely freakin' amazing too. Several ways to skin the cat. Woofers are a little off topic I know.

An the weird thing, Alnico sounds different to Ferrite.
