Not seen that, but I was really keen to find some Eagles pics for this thread, no luck so far.

Rob Eaton - Dark Star Orchestra

Rob uses two birdseye maple-trim Fatties with JBL D120s and K120s. Rob's grill covers are Mars and Jupiter designs on Muslin.

    Attachment 59676

Note the bottom speaker in the cabinet. It is inversely mounted on the exterior of the stack, facing inward. Note that it is also connected. What purpose did this serve?
Unless I'm looking at the bottom speaker wrong it appears to just be a frame, no magnet. The connection, what ever it is from is made into a small box not the push terminals you would expect to see.
There have been cabinet designs speakers mounted inverted, not to be confused with isobaric sub designs. Usually half of the speakers in the cabinet are mounted inverted, the wiring polarity is flipped on the inverted speakers so the acoustical output from all the speakers is in phase. With half of the speakers inverted the theory is that mechanical distortion generated by the speakers themselves with be canceled.

Yeah, I thought it was some sort of direct box experiment or something when I first saw it.

The little TCB SB-5 has two sets of two drivers in there mounted face to face for the mechanical distortion cancellation you refer to. Seems to work OK.

Two drivers mounted face to face is a Isobaric design technique. The SB5 must be a form
of band pass and isobaric design. Isobaric designs let you basically obtain the same tunning while cutting the cabinet size in half from using a single driver.

Looks like a makeshift microphone bracket to me.

    Keith Richards' Nine-Day Party

"How it ended was, I was making a copy of a cassette and writing down every track and I was perfectly OK, I pushed down the record and play, turned round and bang! I caught my head on the edge of a speaker. Must have been asleep for a third of a second. JBL speakers (4315B) , man, beware that brand! There was claret (blood) everywhere. It was then that my friends said, 'Keith, I think you'd better go to bed.'"
