I was very active in the '80s. That would have been a dream/drool studio to me when it was created.

All of my JBL equipment had a great deal of value in the late '90s when I "retired," so I ended up selling them off never realizing that they were already true treasures, but I still have a few pair of those Yamaha NS-5, NS-10 monitors. I have those same in 8" 10" and 15" that I do not know what to do with.

One pair of NS-5s lives in the garage.

Two pics from '86 and '87 from his Air studios with 4435's in Monteserrat. Earlier pics with 4350's. Sadly the studio was destroyed by a hurricane in '89. The police at Air studios around '82

Couple of observations. First the HVAC vents. Imagine the energy requirements to keep those studios cooled? Then there is staid Sir George Martin in his suit and at least a collared shirt and tie, just as he was with almost every picture with the Beatles. No flowery Hawaii shirts and sandals for George.

In case you were wondering why "The Wall" sounds so good on your JBL's: Brittana Row was the Recording Studio set up by Pink Floyd in 1975, kitted out with a pair of 4350's. The image of the control room below is from 1976.


" In 1975 Pink Floyd bought a three-storey block of church halls at 35 Britannia Row in Islington and recorded Animals ….

Their deal with record company EMI, for unlimited studio time in return for a reduced percentage of sales, had expired, and they converted the building into a recording studio and storage facility.

Its construction took up most of 1975, and in April 1976 the band started work on their tenth studio album, Animals. Parts of The Wall, including the famous school chorus on “Another Brick in the Wall”, were also recorded here.

Sound engineer Nick Griffiths recruited the kids – an entire music class (and its teacher) – from the Islington Green School, located around the corner from Britannia Row facilities."

Those 4350 looks like they've been destroyed on purpose judging by how the remaining part of the studio looks like, same for the 4343 - plundered the units and destroyed the cabs. Shame.

Yep here's the same 4350s with the woofers and tweeter still there and the cabinets not damaged. Even looks like the grill leaning against the wall.

This is Genesis recording the album "Wind and Wuthering studio" in 1976 at Relight studios in the Netherlands....I suspect some heads may have come in contact with the corners of those monitors, hence the ad hoc corner padding

Does it strike anyone else as odd that the horns/tweeters were placed on the outside, next to the walls? A sure-fire recipe for creating a high-amplitude first reflection that will time-smear the direct sound (but then what do I know)?

P.S. I've always found that album ("Wind and Wuthering") to be completely lacking in bass, on both the vinyl and the CD pressings. The band kicked ass on those songs when they played them live during their 1977 tour, though.

Those walls appear to be fabric covered and padded, so it may not have been an issue.
