Found an old pair of speakers today

You would believe me if I told you these 40+ year old speakers were new! Not even a nick on them and original boxes!

They really sound good for old speakers, not quite as good as my XPL's except for the bass and mid base is very good. The mid with the wizzer cone is surprisingly good. Listening to Grover Washington's Winelight on SACD. A good test for these speakers.

Yep... I enjoyed it when I stumbled upon it some time back.

Those speakers should suck based on everything we "know" but somehow they really don't. Great find! Congratulations!!!

I agree and they look nice too. Not sure what to do with them though, maybe save them for one of my grand kids?

    Altec 511Bs mostly free! WOW!!!

Sorry if I am stealing a thread, but I felt like it was better NOT to start a new thread to relay similar info.

NOT to steal any hoopla from previous posters ........... BUT!!

I bought a pair of blown 808-8A drivers and 511B horns for ten bucks, today.

I have (I think ?) seven original diaphragms to fit these drivers, sitting unused.

I feel like a bandit, but the guy was happy! He warned me about twenty times that they did not work. I just said that I knew how to fix them.

He said, "Just get them out of here, please. Thank you."

I may have to find a use for them, but HEY, I was ready to pay way more just to collect the horns. Ten bucks? Why not!!?????!!

    not yet.

i have several tons of amps, speakers, test equipment etc,

mostly unheard thus far, obtained at low cost, as the oportunity presents itself.

thus keep myself entertained, when i retire (again).

i do know what those philips fullrange sound like,

as well as the peerless tweeters.

while not hi-eff, they are very well worth having ...

congrats on your find, they look great ..
