What are your experiences with pirate kits for obsolete drivers?

I started the thread Obsolete drivers over at the General part of the forum. Discussing how to repair obsolete drivers with pirate kits is better handled here in the DIY part.

Please share your experiences with pirate kits here, but only pirate kits for obsolete drivers. Measure if you have the opportunity.

You are right. Typing faster than I think...

A pirate kit would be a kit falsely labelled JBL. Can a moderator change the title of the thread to "What are your experiences with aftermarket kits for obsolete drivers"?

At the moment, none. I'm going to try out some McKenzie 2205 kits though. Or just make my own speakers by mixing and matching aftermarket parts. The mix and match will be an experiment though. I was going to use a 2220 cone and a 2225 coil. I haven't made a up my mind on which spider though. I'm just buying parts and doing measurements and mechanical tests at the moment. If I had some jbl dimensions I could let you know how they match with the cone I ordered. I will be able to find a pretty precise cone weight though. If someone knows the weight for a 2220 cone we can compare when I get it. Nick
