Smile Altec Voice of the Theatre Speakers

Hello, I am brand new to this forum. I have recently inherited some voice of the theatre speakers (805B horn, 515B woofer). I am not sure what to do with them. I have heard that they have great sound, but they are VERY big. I think I would rather sell them and let them go to a good home that will appreciate them. My problem is that I don't know the going price for them or the best place to list them. Can anyone help? Thanks, Nick.

Those old VOTT speakers were BIG - so shipping is difficult at best.
Plus, its a lot like Real Estate - sale price depends on what you have, and where you are selling it (location, location, location).

Does anyone in your part of the world WANT big old grey boxes in their listening space?

And its also dependent on the seller -
so many folks have mistaken ideas on how much of a market there is for such ugly things -
what do you think they are worth, and what do you want for them?

I don't really know. I also have 4 amps (1593B). There is also a monitor and they all mount in a wall mount rack. I was thinking $1500.00 for everything?

Pictures could help your case ...
but with the economy where it is right now,
this might not be the best time to get the most bucks for your gear.

If you find it hard to sell or the boxes are too big for shipping, sell the components only or buid new boxes from components
    (smaller).

If everything was operating and condition was good it's a great deal. Shipping is the killer. Local sale is the way to go.

I'd recommend listing them at the Altec User's Board marketplace section. If you provide photos and your location, someone over there might snatch them up. Your local craigslist is worth a shot as well......

The real trick (as mentioned) is locating someone nearby who has the space and passion for that kind of gear. Depending on the kind of cabinets you have, and the condition of the drivers and horns, you could easily get more than $1500. 805 horns are very desirable by many audiophiles out there who have the listening space and WAF for them, and large format high freq drivers can also pull in some nice $$.
