My only experience with Grado was a pair of 325's (don't know which flavor) . They were very punchy , unnaturally so ....OK for a quick hit of classic rock , but my pref is for more natural , less colored. Didn't appear to be comfortable for long periods.

The more that I use the STAX, the better they seem. But I don't want to forget about my Senn 580's as I've seemed to do with the Shure E3's that I was so happy to buy....IEMs can sometimes beat even the big, expensive cans.

was shopping at my fave "by the pound" store yesterday. While digging
through a wire ball , I found these.

SHURE SE-210's ...really decent IEM's , nice shape , a little better than my Shure E3's.
SHURE UNK's ...good sounding, no model number, in-line voice activated mike.
SKULL CANDY/Giro slip-in's ...these are designed for my Giro snowboarding helmet
that I use for winter riding.

have the HD-430's ... on my 2nd or 3rd set of earpads. Looks like I need another set :P
inner foam seems to wear out first. Seems like they were 20-25/pair. Comfy, lightweight,
and sound pretty good with the right material ... might be a good match for folks with a
    built-in HF rolloff

yeah, I was in the Diggo-rama and saw the owners manual on these Senns first and dug around to find the cans themselves. Have plenty of spare ear pads and found some that looked like OEM and some around the ears that work too.

They are good, but a somewhat dated sound presentation. The gamer ones actually sound better.

It's too bad that my Kanji (or is it Katakana ?) is rather poor as this seems a really good link on Senns and their lineage.

I still dearly love my HD-580precision pair too

    Howdy, Seawolf97,

I bought two pairs of Sennheiser headphones, when I worked at Schaak Electronics, selling stereo speakers, in the mid-1980's. My best ones were the 420's, and they still sound full and wonderful today. They came with velour covers on their earpads, and I'm sure the foam has deteriorated over the years, but don't want to take them apart to see, actually! Should probably do that, just to make sure they are in as good a condition as can be made to happen. Great headphones, though, IMHO. The other pair I got were the lesser priced 414's, and they are nice, too, but the foam is gone, gone, gone, and needs replacing. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

I knew Grado is small and family owned, but I had no idea it is located in their family home. From the BBC.

Not clear if any of the Grados still live in the building but certainly the oldest son of John Grado mentions growing up in the building and living on the top floor. Go to the website of the company and they unabashedly show off their small family oriented business. The front of building is covered in graffiti and by the look of the cracked paint on the door it may be they just gave up repainting. The equipment in the listening room shows some line source speakers that the "old man" built as a prototype for new product line that never went to market.

Fun to compare the videos of the Grado "factory" with that of Sennheiser that SEAWOLF97 posted above.

yup, that Sennheiser factory looks like a German version of NASA.

their 2 story anachronic chamber with the mesh floor between the 2 storys
    is cool.

At least they've got the microphones in first hand. (old school - sorry, not NASA but NSA)
