    hD 558

The first sennheiser HD that i got a chance to use was HD 558. I bought the headphone from Bay Bloor Radio store in Toronto. i dont know much about the internal refllector or the advanced eargonomic technology. I'm just another average music listener. This headphone provides me a clear bass that now i can hear sounds which I haven't heard before in movies and music. it gives you a pleasant listening experience with out an amp. i heard that there is an issue of headband cracks. So far no problem, Hope it continue to be like that.

Red face they seem to just come to me

    this week I acquired 4 new-to-me pairs ..

some PSB's ... very comfortable and fine sound
BeatsDr.DreDetox .... built OK, but sound like sh1t.
Audio Technicia ATH-910 PRO ...really quite nice
AKG K240 Monitors ... a well loved classic.

Oh, and last week some Sennheiser HD-580's
    and some Senn PX-150's

Taken in sum with the other 20-30 pairs that I have, think
I need more ears/time in a day to listen.

So I bought some decent Sennheiser HD-500a's yesterday. They get good reviews.

problem: they have an undersized jack for removable cord. Can't demo just yet.

yesterday I picked up a pair of these buds ==>> https://www.amazon.com/Symphonized-N...4AGH9Q6JJ1BAB9

like I really needed more buds

the sites tease that the sound is better because of the wood body. yeah, right.

plugged them into a dap last night. the sound was like the first time that I heard L100's. balanced and very clear. voices and string instruments had a lot of timber to the sound (no pun intended ).

anyway, Amaz has them for half of retail and I don't know of a better sounding bud for $25.

can't wait to listen again tonite.*

What about the 3.0 version for 50¢ less? They have a volume control.

Talking well, that's a new one on me

    .
I'm doing some cleaning and find my son's old headphones. Put them up on CL
and a guy comes down from Wa. , really wants them.

He brings one of those laminated headphone stands. Doesn't want to hear them,
just wants to see how they look on his stand. Loves the blue color.

That MassDrop sale has been going on for months and I was tempted but for the price of two HD598s, I'm not sure they're that much better, if at all. And I already have one HD598 and one HD598SE. I bought the first pair after auditioning probably ten much more expensive headphones at the local Crutchfield store and decided the 598 was my favorite then though I waited years for Amazon to offer them for under $100. When they did the same thing with the 598SE I also jumped because, well, I always hated that Maserati TC look of the original pair.

If those are actually yours, how do you compare them to the tens-of-other headphones you have had?

My trend for the last couple of years has been towards orthodynamics, mainly Fostex. Love 'em. highs and mids are beautiful ... bass not bad, but could be more.

Of my Senn collection, the most satisfying are the HD-25 mk2 ii's and the HD-580's. Internet stories go that the 580 sold too well and Senn changed the cosmetics, raised the price and then called it the HD-600. Teardowns seem to confirm this.
The HD-650 is the 3rd member of this series, but as I understand ,, is quite a bit improved.

I listen to the fostex's and think "Wow, it can't get much better" . Then I go back to the 580's and they are just as good, but in different ways. The 580's are supremely comfortable (mine are old enough that I've had to rebuild all the foam padding). The 580's are a lot like the 250Ti's, not immediately impressive, until you listen for a bit and get acclimated. They do most everything that I want in headphones, in fact , that's the only reason that I don't jump at this 650 deal. Would feel bad having the 580's just sit while the "new cans in town" get all the action.

I did get some HD-414's last month, in box w/everything. They don't match up well anymore, but belong in a museum. The Fostex's have the white Beyerdynamic ear pads and the strap padding from a pilots Dave Clark set.
