Oddly enough, I too was thinking of using Control 1s as my my surround speakers (at least for side/back wall) and maybe Control Contractor speakers for the ceiling speakers.
I've used the Control 1s for surrounds in the past and I've always like them. Quite pleasing sounding, actually. Nice job on your system, by the way.
I bought them as a temporary solution as I didn't know what I wanted (and didn't have the budget for S4Ai). Right now I don't feel and urge to update to be honest. They are surprisingly good and almost free - but of course they have their limitation and cannot be used too far away and need high pass filter at 80-100hz.

My room is sufficiently small (approximately 20-feet long and 15-foot wide). I plan to have surround subwoofers so their limited bass response is not an issue. I have zero requirement for non-visible speakers.
Note, this room will follow a commercial cinema design for Atmos so there will be about 20-surrounds total in the room (including ceiling).
Can't remember: was the theoretical 27Hz tuning frequency ever confirmed with actual measurements on a stock M2 unit?...

Not that I can recall either. The only thing I ever saw that was close to talking about the actual tuning frequency was short statement here.

It might be easier said than done.
GT explained once that depending on the driver the impedance dip is not necessarily the real tuning frequency due to inductance of the driver. The real tuning frequency can be a bit higher. There is a long winded way of doing it by taking various impedance measurements of both peaks and doing some calculations. 27 hertz is probably right. With the variety of flared ports available it’s not going to be a straight forward simulation so the user will need to empirically tune their enclosure as best they can.
