    150-4c question.

Is there anyone out there who might have Thiele-Small parameters on the 150-4C, or perhaps the University C15W? I want to know what makes them tick. It's a shame the 150-4C went out of production, because IMO it was probably the best horn driver ever. After all, wasn't it horn loading they were designed for? Why the folks at JBL saw fit to load the Paragon with an LE15, I'll never understand. I have difficulty listening to a Paragon loaded with an LE15, it sounds awful. They could have at least used the 130A / 2220, because they both work well in tight volumes.

I am in desperate need of a 15" horn driver for production purposes. Does anyone know of any outfits currently manufacturing 15" woofers best suited for horn loading? If it doesn't work well in a Hartsfield, Paragon, or a C34, I'm not interested. I just found out that Vitavox has drivers, but at $5K apiece I think I'll pass. I'm not above courting a manufacturer that could produce what I need.

    Thanks, Horn Fanatic.

The 150-4C went out of production before the advent of Thiele-Small parameters. Somebody may have determined the Thiele-Small parameters in recent years, but you can't rely on somebody else's measurements, because after all these years, different 150-4Cs will have widely different parameters. That is, you will have to determine the parameters for every 150-4C you plan to use. This is hardly the way to go.

The Italian company Faital Pro has two 15" woofers that fit your bill:

    15PR400: http://bit.ly/V5a2h5

Other members will have different suggestions, and modern drivers will in general be a better choice.

Thanks, I think John at Vintage Reproductions uses that driver.

Thanks for the tip. Actually, loud speaker parameters existed from the beginning, they just weren't available to the home brew speaker builder. If those guys in the '50's had them available, perhaps they wouldn't have spent so much of their hard earned money on guessing which speaker suited their needs. But thanks to those two Aussies they compiled them into something people can use. Thiele didn't invent the parameters, he just outlined them in his 1972 article.

Again, thank you for your help. I knew I came to the right place.
