    JBL Array 1000 upgrade possible?

I have a pair of JBL Array 1000s. The 1400s with their 14" woofer would be too big in bass output for my listening room, but I would love to have their mid/high frequency performance. From what i understand, the 435AL driver in the 1400s is superior to that of the 175Nd-3 in my 1000s, and the horns themselves are larger.

So my questions is this: Would it be possible, and would there be any sonic gain, from one of the two following upgrades/modifications:

    a) Upgrading from the 175Nd-3 to the 435AL driver (or other superior driver) with the existing Array 1000 horn

    b) Replacing the whole horn assembly in the 1000s with the 1400 horn/driver combo - provided that they both use more or less he same fastening bolt configuration and would be interachangeable without too much hacking of the mounts.

    Any input appreciated!

    Hello

I would leave well enough alone. Those are nice smaller systems and between the network modifications and the fit factor for the 435's, will they fit inside the horn shell or a 1000?, it's a lot of work. Replacing with a larger horn will completely mess up the systems off axis response and possibly on axis with the larger driver spacing using the same crossover point.

Are you up for a possible redesign to get this to work??

Considering you would also be voiding your waranty it may not be the best route.

On the 800 Array, even though the exit of the 175 and 435 are the same, there is a lip on the back of the horn that semi encases the top of the 175. So you couldn't just fit a 435 on there even if the bolt circles were the same.

Leave it well enough alone is my vote, too.

Thanks, guys. Will most likely follow your advice, unless Greg Timbers himself suggests otherwise...

What is the price difference of the components?
435AL-1 in the 1400 Array is 1.3x the price of the 175Nd-3 in the 800 Array and 1000 Array
LE14H-3 in the 1400 Array is 3.4x the price of the "WOOFER 10" in the 1000 Array

The price difference between the "WOOFER 8" in the 800 Array and the "WOOFER 10" in the 1000 Array is 1.008x

The beryllium version of the 435AL-1, the 435BE, is 3.65x the price of the 175Nd-3 and 2.8x the price of the 435AL-1
