OOOOh, thanks I'll take em'!!!!!!!, in all seriousness I've never heard a pair of the 604-8X duplex speakers but
I would think that they would be quite special. Christian.
New Altec 620 in Montreal Studio -
so, where do you get "New" Altecs?
Great Plains Audio?
They do look very interesting!
I did google it, but what I mostly get is New "Altec" In Motion iM620 Ipod dock thingees ...
and an Ebay ad for Build-to-order cabinets from someone in Georgia - they look like your pictures.
2ch: WiiM Pro; Topping E30 II DAC; Oppo, Acurus RL-11, Acurus A200, JBL Dynamics Project - Offline: L212-TwinStack, VonSchweikert VR-4
7: TIVO, Oppo BDP103D, B&K, 2pr UREI 809A, TF600, JBL B460
Original 620s should have that marking:
Great plains audio makes allnico drivers . Therefore if you call Bill he should be able to make you a brand new pair of 604 8G.I would ask for spare parts like cones just in case.
Second as per cabinets go Here in Montreal anny good furniture maker with plans will make them. These monitors were used at Morin Heights Studio. MDF WITH CHERRY PANELLING.
You will find the plans on the Altec site on the Lansing libray.
Four Magnificents in the back. Holy crap! I used to have a pair of those and they are huge, huge, huge...a little bigger than the K-horns I had even.

Many great albums have been recorded in this mythical studio, located deep in the forest in the Laurentian Mountains, North of Montreal. David Bowie comes to my mind. As well as Sting, Keith Richard etc.
The all-analog studio has shut down in 2003 and was dismantled in 2005 if I remember.
I wonder why they chose Magnificents? they don't exactly have what I would call a flat response like most studios opt for. I actually think many of the JBL monitors would have more accuracy. Correct me if I'm wrong but my Magnificents always seemed to be missing something. They did have very good upper midrange and plenty of mid-bass slam though.
