JBL 4435 Early vs Late model

1990 JBL 4435 has separate enclosures for the woofers while later model around 1994 has both woofers sharing one enclosure. Also it seems that HF units on older ones used aluminum diaphragms, while the newer ones used titanium. Does anyone know the differences between these revisions and whether these result in different sound qualities?

I don't know about the woofer enclosure changes, but the earlier aluminum diaphragmed 2421As were better sounding when new though less durable. That said if both drivers have original diaphragms and saw hard studio service, today the 2425 Ti diaphragmed drivers might actually sound better.

http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/443035.pdf talks about 2425H with titanium diaphragm (i.e. later model) and 2 separate subchambers for woofers (i.e. earlier model), so probably there are more than 2 revisions. I suppose the biggest difference between them would be in the enclosure (1 chamber vs 2 subchambers) for the bass. If anyone has heard both that would be helpful.

Info I have found to date indicate all CD's were 8 ohm versions. I believe the "early" run from 82-95 started with 2421A (aluminum dia, diamond surround) and ended with 2425H (titanium, diamond) with the "later" final year of 96 using 2426H (titanium, diamond). Initial horns were 2344 and final were 2344A but I have no idea what the A changed. JBL's Dec/84 brochure lists 2425H & 2344 so reasonably the 2425H was used by then. The JBL driver brochures I have for 2421ab are dated 1981, 2425hj are 1982 and 2426hj are 1994 so those dates might be close to their transition years and the 2421a production may therefore be quite small. JBL's 2012 Transducer Replacement List shows the 2426h as "acoustically equivalent" replacement to superseded 2421A & 2425H, but not sure how refined that evaluation is. A plus for ferrite magnets is they are more robust than Alnico which can lose strength over time and if roughly handled.
My 4435's sn 256640, 258083 use 2425H on 2344A's and do sound great.
I haven't found any info that says a common compartment was used - mine have 2 woofer compartments, with 2234H's.

2344A = 2 piece assy. (Throat and horn)
2426 = 2425 but with spin-on adapter rather than cast exit.
    I think the 2425HS was a 2426 w/o the adapter (threaded exit)

The 2344 (non A) was the original, 2 piece version.

Thanks Mike... I guess they sorted out the initial manufacturing difficulties.
