JBL 4520 loaded with diffrent drivers

    Hi all,

Would a altec 416 8b and a jbl d130 play well together in a 4520? There specs are similair so I figuared they might complament each other. I would plan on putting in a baffle between the 2 in the back chamber.

I thought I had read here before there are good combinations of drivers that work well in these cabinets. Just wondering if these are one of them.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I have no experience with this cabinet. JBL did run a number of different drivers
as being "best" for this cabinet at the time. I don't recall a d130 being one of them.
Have a run through the "Library" here.

If you're preparing to build a 4520, you can always replace the drivers later
(if warranted) and find out about this particular combination for yourself.

2205, E140 were the JBL recommendations, IIRC. Early cabs like this (c550)
had 150-4 drivers ($$$$ now) or 130B as options. Most of these were designed
as bass drivers, with the d130 and 416 tending to be more mid-bass.

I'm not saying you won't like the combination... just that you're outside of the
box (so to speak), best I understand.

Others here have had recent experience with building and loading these cabs.

I think I'm going to can that idea. I'll rebuild the d130's as 2235h'es and use them as subs.

I know they it won't be a perfect conversion but I'll only be running the with a few hundred watts. But I would probably add a fair amount weight to it to drop the fs.
