The R series was late 70's and not any quality when compared to the earlier JBL gear. The cabinets are vinyl covered particle board and the woofer is a thin stamped steel frame. Pass and put your money towards some better vintage JBL's.

    dead thread

as i wander down this rocky road(called life) i look through road side trash piles for entertainment, behold! a pair of jbl r123's.
or one and a few cabnet parts of another, no mids, or tweets, just woofs
    w/no cones.
i pick the cabnet up and start walking, one hands fingers touching the
woofs frame. as cars drive by i can feel the frame vibrate to auto exauste
(note french spelling) the magnets on these must be the least magnet ever
    on a jbl woofer.
