Question Best 6 1/2 “ JBL bass mid

What’s the best 6 1/2 “ bass mid driver that JBL makes with high sensitivity a good frequency response down to 50 or 40Hz and power handling as well?

Oh the edge surround must be made of rubber!

Good question, I assume it needs to be obtainable some how? I don't believe many JBL drivers that size were made. My fave would be the 6.5" from the SVA 1600 speaker. Cast frame, rubber surround, good to about 50 Hz realistically. I'm not sure if it can be bought from JBL. . .

That’s the kinder answer and I’m rather disappointed it can’t be obtained I thought anything is obtainable if one where to have the money.

    New Information

It seems the SVA1600 drivers may be obtainable, check the link below:

    http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_br...L&MarketId=HOM

That's in the USA, of course.

The Tech Sheet for the SVA1600 is here:

    http://manuals.harman.com/JBL/HOM/Te...A1600%20ts.pdf

In the SVA1600 tech sheet the woofers are called "5 in. 130mm" but the item number is not the same as the five inch driver used in the SVA Center and SVA1500. I own both the SVA1600 and SVA Center and can assure you their woofers are different, that must be a typo.

The link below is the entry point for JBL parts as provided through the Harman site in the US. Notice the link for International Customers:

    http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_browse/partlist.asp

One other thought I have is the 6.5" driver from the TiK series, although I know nothing specific about it. It is used in two of the TiK line speakers, the Ti2K, seen below at the Harman Audio sales site:

    http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_br...I2KBX-Z&status=

and the Ti6K, also available through Harman.

I realize the TiK information above is likely no help to you since you are in the UK, and you want drivers, not speaker systems. I do not see the drivers available for sale in the US through the JBL parts link above.

I believe the TiK series was initially marketed in Europe, and perhaps even manufactured there, so you might have a chance of obtaining the drivers locally, relatively speaking of course.

I hope some of this will be helpful to you.

My favorite is the 706G-1 as used in the L1 and L5. Substantially stronger than the 115H-1 in A/B comparison. More info: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...&postcount=112

Yep, the 706G-1 is a good choice. A newer model with a rubber surround is the 906Ti, but it rolls off below about 60Hz. It'll take a lot of power and has 91dB sensitivity.

A magnetically shielded version, the 706G-1S was also used on the Synthesis 3 Speakers, the S3HC and the S3VC. Maybe others. They're still available from JBL.

    SVA1600 have 6.5" bass.

Jbl list the woofers in the SVA1600 as 130MM, 5.125" Totally wrong. They are 165MM, 6.5". The SVA 1500 and HT4, HT1 are 5" not 6.5.
