    2440 Help

I got a pair of 2440's the other day. The foam inside is toast. Is there anything special I should replace it with? Or just get some adhesive back foam from Mcmaster carr.

    Thanks,
    Nick

Somewhere in here, I think I posted a McMasters link for industrial felt with adhesive on one side... Just don't use craft glue... There was also at least one such horror story.

The odd thing, there was heavy felt under the foam. So maybe I don't need the foam?

If its the same foam pad as used in the 2441, it's still available, JBL # 60398. This is also used in the 2450's so you won't get 30 year old foam and it's self stick :^) As inexpensive as they are I can't imagine fussing around with anything else when it's so easy to do it as original. JMO.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

Thanks for the p/n. I might try some wool first. Just to see how they sound.

If you can get parts from JBLpro, that's great (and potentially simpler).

yeah.. my thought is I'd rather not have to remember to replace the goo,
that the foam seems to normally turn into, a few years down the road.

For those that replace diaphragms (and foam cap backing) on a regular
schedule (e.g., well-run studios), it's not such a big deal.

I think the foam was a cost cutting approach. Thats why I want to try the wool first.

Hi Nick - saw your stripped unit and it was all shiney. Lot better than how it started out. Good luck on the refurb.
