I found those speakers in the bottom of a friends basement... never saw this before, oval woofer made in some kind of thick styrofoam...
The crossover (mounted outside the box ) says KEF.
Anybody familiar with those?

Oval flat driver is B139. Great innovative bass driver.
Mid is the notorious B110, as found in the Rogers LS3/5A, as supplied to the BBC.
Tweeter is the sweet T33, aslo found in Roger's LS3/5A

Keff are the speaker that really held up the JBL migration into the UK market . IMHO , the sound is the closest to JBL I have heard.
KEEPERS !
Rich
I used to be a Kef supporter. actually I still am.
A very nice collection...
I have fond memories of the KEF 105... is that a recent photo or from years gone by? If it is recent, I am wondering how the bextrene woofers are holding up... I recall they had aging issues.
They were certainly near the top of my drool list back in the day.

Hi Widget. Shots are from 2 years ago. I had four of those B300 drivers and none were sagging. The were rotated once per year. I still have the pair of Cantatas and Calindas. I sold the 105/2 last year.
Thanks guys, so I'm gonna keep the drivers and crossovers and dump the cabinets.... but I'm gonna give them a fair listening before

Better to keep it all together if you can....

The B139 is great in a transmission line tuned to 25Hz

Tweeter looks like its a T27.
The B139 does perform well in a TL but dont expect high levels-from any of them.
Popular in the 70's but low efficiency, a bit soft sounding with silky smooth top end
made for a British hifi, warm, pipe and slippers sound-as far from JBL as you could imagine.
There's a review of the new KEF Blade speaker in The Absolute Sound magazine this month (April 2012), that includes a very good history of KEF that's really interesting.
Wilson Audio used the KEF B139 in their WAMM system and have built up a stock of them (120!) to service their old speakers into the future (the B139 is no longer manufactured). Here's a video talking about it, among other things: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf1-5cGVs8g
There's also a book on KEF by Ken Kessler, but it's a little pricey: http://www.amazon.com/KEF-50-Years-I...1300001&sr=1-1
Nice find!
Ok, got them playing right now.
First impression was.... bose... oh no! (if there's no highs and no lows it must be bose)
I realized I had to give them a lot more high and low boost that I would give my old L100s, Once I did give them that boost, they reacted very well to it, no boominess, no harshness, they are quite soft indeed and not hard to listen too.
But they do need a serious EQ boost.
All the drivers are working but one tweeter has a pushed in dome. I took it out partially with masking tape but still some creases remains.
