Anyone interested in a source of extremely well recorded music? This company's catalog is quite eclectic. You could start with this one. http://www.marecordings.com/main/pro...b8c770dec8fbc0 Or this http://www.marecordings.com/main/pro...b8c770dec8fbc0 or http://www.marecordings.com/main/pro...b8c770dec8fbc0

Even these mp3s jump out of my Beyerdynamics. I can scarcely imagine what the discs sound like. http://www.marecordings.com/main/pro...b8c770dec8fbc0

All are recorded with a stereo pair of battery powered microphones. Lately the capture is done with double resolution - 5.6MHZ - DSD. They offer a variety of media to play, all digital. All are recorded in "large, acoustically significant environments such as classical concert halls, churches and galleries." Think the Japanese recordings of the late Gary Karr. I also notice that when the live performers are wearing headphones, they are all Stax. No surprise, this company started in Japan. It is an American, Todd Garfinkle. There is an brief explanation by Todd at CES reported by Tyll Hertsens of Interfidelity. http://www.innerfidelity.com/content...-ma-recordings

The cost is pretty consistently $16.00. The sampler is $25.00 but is double length. A hybrid SACD, each layer is different music. For you non SACD player owners, they play on many DVD players and all (I think) Sony Blu-ray units. If you don't know yet, the music signal from a decent Sony Blu-ray player kicks ass.

I have had to tear myself away from the samples to type this. They are too beautiful and I stop typing every time. I am pretty sure I am gong to order Bruce Stark's Shadow Bright. I am transfixed both by the improvised music and the stunning recording of the Bosendorfer Imperial grand.

Here are the microphones.
