    044ti replacement??

Does anyone know of a driver that might substitute for the 044TI? I know the 035tia might work but doesn't have as
smootha response or top end in comparing to the 044TI.

I am considering this for 2 reasons.

    1. If/when I must replace my tweets on
    the 250's or 18ti's.

    2. I had a broken 044ti I was going to
get reconed to use in a center channel
but found out the part is now N.L.A. and
orange county speaker is now $178 for
a 044ti recone!! So is there a tweeter
that is a good timbre match to the 044TI?

I am completely ignorant when it comes to the JBL dome tweeter families, and I am a fan of keeping these things stock unless I am going all out on a redesign mission. That said, I would try to find out from those here on the forum that might have the full specs on that driver and see if a suitable replacement can't be found from Vifa, Dynaudio, Focal etc. I bet there is a device that will work with little or no crossover modification and have similar if not superior performance.

You could try another JBL tweeter from eBay but then you are dealing with another used tweeter.

    Good luck.

    066

If I remember right, JBL has said on the case of replacing the 066s on the L212s to use 044s. I have not had to at this time, being there always seems to be someone selling 066s on ebay. I even managed to get one that was never used.
So with this in mind, could the substitute work in reverse?

    Re: 066

Actually, the 033, 034, 044, and 066 are all fairly interchangeable with the 066 being the most desireable and expensive.

Both the 044Ti and it's diaphragm kit are still available from JBL. NLA when stock is depleted.

Is there someone at JBL who you could ask about the 052Ti? It seems to be the least expensive option lately.
