    Bel-Aire 42020 copies

Here are a few pictures of the Bel-Aire speakers I’ve been working on for a few weeks. These were built from scratch using curly sycamore veneer over mdf. I wasn’t able to find the exact measurements of the original, so I created some plans from pictures using the 3 1/8 inch 075 to scale the size.

I can’t really tell you how they sound just yet. The 075 aren’t exactly working, these are the aluminum tops from a pair I used to create my wooden 076 copies, so the drivers are in use elsewhere. The 8 in woofers are 2110s. I threw in some 2425s temporarily just to test the crossover. I am still looking around for a good deal on another pair of ring radiators if you have some.

Yes, the grills too. They're built using plywood sides connected together by dowels and other rounded bits of wood. the cloth is something I shopped around for that looked to be of the right period, and I found some 1/16 by 1/2 inch aluminum for the trim.

John thats Beautiful!!!! Nice job! I desperatly need some of the banding material on the grille mounts? How did you get that material? I refinished a pair for a fellow board member when wifes puppy bulldog chewed up one of the boomerang shaped grill cloth holders. That thin metal was damaged and I need enough to do 4 of them. Where can I buy that thin metal material?
