altec lansing 872a Madeira should I save the cabinets ?

I have a pair of Altec Lansing 872a Madeira speakers that I bought new in 1969 that have been stored away for a couple of years. They were stored grills against the wall but the live in cat decided to WIZ on one side of each of them. The bases that are attached to bottom are starting to de-laminate and the particle board is crumbling about 1" up. I've pulled the speakers out and had them checked out & their A-ok. My question is would it be worthwhile to have the speakers restored by a cabinet maker or just ditch them?

It's really a matter of the extent of the cabinet. I never throw out a cabinet unless the substrate is damaged all the way through. In other words if the accoustic design is impossible to restore then in the dumpster it goes. Please post pics and you'll see lots of answers.

    Important question

Do you like the way they sound?

If so, then build new cabinets for them!

Yeah, you should ditch them....at my house!!! Madrids right? They are good sounding for vintage. I am amazed at how good these old speakers can sound after picking up a pair of old EV full range 12 inchers. I say go for it! Pictures please!!!
