    LX5 Crossover components buried

I pulled out the Lx5 crossover from my Paragon (serial #120) with the hope of upgrading the capacitors. Inside, I found the wiring to the 3-position switch and the resistors, but the inductors and capacitors were molded in some sort of hard petroleum product at least 1 and 1/2 inches deep. I was hoping to replace the 50 year-old capacitors without destroying the inductors. Any ideas?
