    L36 woofer replacements

Sorry about this guys, but I've been reading all morning using the search and I just can't find the answer I'm looking for.

I won a pair of L36s on Ebay and didn't notice until afterwards that the woofers had been replaced with aftermarket ones. So I've been watching ebay for some JBLs. I see both 125A and 127A speakers listed as good for the L36s. What is the difference between these? Are they the same? Will either work just as well as the other?

    Thanks so much.

    Blessings, Terry

Thanks. I read that post during my search. It really doesn't say how close they are in sound. Maybe they are identical but if so, why the different model numbers? Is it only the inverted dustcovers?

I guess I'm just wondering if they are completely interchangable. It will help me when buying on ebay.

    Thanks, Terry

they are not the same...go with the ones that supposed to be in your cabinets. x-over, port size, length, cabinetsize...are all factors that i do believe JBL concidered when building these systems!

The 125A and 127A use the same kit. The 125A has the dust cap inverted and the 127A has the dust cap mounted "normal". If the "normal" orientation bothers you, cut it out, order new dust caps from JBL, and glue them in inverted. Or vise versa.

If you're worried about which sounds "better" to you then you'll have to do a direct A/B.

Using different model numbers is nothing new. Take the LE5-10 and LE5-12 for instance. Exact same except one has a black faced frame and the other has the bare aluminum faced frame.

Well, I care, sort of. These L36 cabinets are a little beat up. Some of it happened in the shipment to me. Water under the bridge now. I'm not trying to restore them to pristine condition, I just want to make them sound right again. If the 127a"s will be happy in these boxes then I'm OK with that. Seems like they are more plentiful than the 125a's. Maybe that's just been the case lately. I really haven't looked before.

The "normal" dust cap orientation doesn't bother me. If I get ones that have to be refoamed I will probably go the shim route anyway so I guess I can decide then which way I mound the dust covers.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Blessings, Terry
