    Sweet!

The Hartsfields have always been a secret pipe dream of mine.....

I couldn't afford them if they showed up at my door though!

That could be Rudy Winegarten's old place; he was a big JBL dealer in the late 50s/early 60's. Heading west (towards Beverly Hills), it would be on the left (south) side of the street.

The picture of Paragon reminds me how sorry I am that I sold it. There are about 20 - 40 of them in Norway, but when I put an ad on the net some years ago, nobody wants to sell. The Hartsfields ... don't know of any except at the Neby museum. (Not for sale)

this is my current fav ...

    Crossroads Music
    3130 SE Hawthorne, Portland OR 97214 * (503) 232-1767
The skinny: This giganto store combines the inventory of 35 different dealers, who all work on a consignment basis. This gives Crossroads wide and deep cross sections of different genres in a way that few stores anywhere can match. Mostly used vinyl, but if you poke around you can find every format – LP, 4 track, 8 track, cassette, cd, and beyond. The staff is very helpful and friendly, a must in a store this large and diverse. You could spend 8 hours here and barely scratch the surface of what’s in stock. Another essential destination for any music fan who finds themselves in the Rose City.

Of interest: The vintage electronic equipment throughtout the store that included a veritable museum of turntables, 8 track players and more – all for sale at reasonable prices.
Bonus points: For the selection of posters that covers every inch of the ceiling in the front room, and the impressive selection of vintage cardboard promo displays behind the front counter.

    [yes, this is the ceiling...]

Melrose! I drove up there dozens of times in the 1980s and 1990s to visit Aron's Records (huge, busy, full of freaks and cheap promo LPs) and Rene's, a much smaller but quality shop down on the corner. Later Rene's closed and Aron moved up on Highland. Was still worth a visit, mostly for the tidal wave of classical LPs traded in by the Hollyweed types who were dumping all their vinyl. There was a snooty collector LP shop up the street from Aron on Highland, but a record there cost what a foot of records cost at Aron's... no thanks! The snooty guy had an EV Patrician as I recall... never saw any JBL in the other joints.
