Exclamation JBL price jump on Ferrite drivers!

I don't know if people have been watching but I've noticed a huge price increase on retail prices for ferrite based drivers like the 2206, 2226, 2241 and 2242. Compression drivers too.

I bought my pair of 2206 a few years back at $298ea and that price was current at PE at the beginning of this year. Now a 2206 costs $450!!
Look at the huge jump on all your favorite drivers>>
    http://www.parts-express.com/wizards...Mfg&srchMfg=90

I have a 2011 Parts express catalog here and it lists a 2241 at $526 and now it's $797! All the others have similar increases and take a look at the 2242!
The available neo drivers look more reasonable price wise.

Are they stopping production on these or do they not want us dyi's to buy from them! I certainly wont buy at those prices.

PS: Browsing the catalog there is a general increase for all of there gear but I suppose that is to be expected.

I've noticed but highly doubt that I could care less.

More importantly, how are Selenium prices these days?

I understand your position, I think.

I don't usually shop for Selenium but I picked out a 18 incher from my PE catalog. $312 in the catalog and $340 now. Not much of a jump.

$300 + for 238x horn throats is outrageous given that the molds for these were paid off long ago. A P audio clone of these is approx $75 so where is the extra 200 bucks ?

Does all this gear now incur import duty on its way in from Mexico and if so at what % ?

    Exactly.

I wonder if they wish to price JBL out of competition with Selenium.

Some jerk did a single-factor analysis and felt they could gouge on these....

Seems pretty simple. JBL is going down in flames.

    Wow!
    2226H was around 340 if I remember well, now it's over 500!
And the 2426 went from 280 to 440.

    I don't get it.

It's just to make up for the unforeseen costs of the little things like import duties and almost a year of scrap generation in their new kick ass manufacturing facilities.

    Did I say that?
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

Plain and simple, when the bean counters get involved they seem to think the only way to make money is by putting up the prices!

One way is by selling bigger numbers of products at lower margins and sensible prices. Builds customer loyalty to a company and spreads good will by word of mouth. Works for manufacturers like Rotel and Adcom as well as retailers like Wal-Mart (Yes, I know many here hate Wal-Mart and no, I'm no mouthpiece for them. Just using it as an example ).
