    MTM's

Anyone have any experience with 2118J's in an MTM configuration?? Was looking to start my rears but thought it might be fun to try the 4612 driver compliment in an MTM. Use a proper woofer say bellow 300hz or so.

    d'Appolito alignment:

Mid - Tweet - Mid, in line.

From listening to 4612's, this should be a sweet deal.

Thinkin' also an enhanced S11 system would work nicely: LE10A's and LE20, maybe.

    O.K., O.K., 076 then....

Be aware, the 4612 is more of a "2.5 way system" than an "MTM-wanna-be". The two 2118Js in the 4612, have DIFFERENT crossovers! One is run wide-open with NO crossover, while the other one is crossed over at about 1500 Hz, IIRC. This prevents a lot of comb filtering above 1500 Hz from occuring, and also compensates for the rising response of the 2118J.

Very sensible way of dealing with these issues, IMHO- by using a woofer with a rising response, they could "roll-out" one of them early, and NOT cause a dip in the midrange response!

Now, you COULD make an "MTM-esque" array with the drivers... but I'd think the 4612 type crossover topology would probably work better, than trying to make both of the go up to the usable safe lower limit of the 2404 (which, IMHO, shouldn't go below 4500 Hz f3, which, if you calculate the highpass point using the 4612 capacitor and coil values, is exactly what it is in the 4612, even though the "official" crossover point in the literature is listed as 3KHz)...

    Regards,
    Gordon.

I resurected this to get more input on MTM's in general. How many of you have actually scratch built an MTM system?? What drivers did you use?? I am still looking at 2118Js but with a 2418/2342 horn crossed at 1.5K. How is the 2123/2342 center channel working out???]

I have 2118 in MTM config with stageaccompany 8526 ribbon as tweeter. The bass is taken care of by a 2226.

I will provide more detail later as I am in a hurry.

    Cheers

    - I'd play around with different horns to see what offered the best imaging for your situation.
    - Based on previous successes with symetrically "mouthed" horns / I'd give the OASR the first tryout ( though my horns aren't used in a surround configuration ) .
    - I'd also give the 2.5 "helper" woofer tuning a try / maybe not the exact inductor size of the 4612, since you've committed to a dedicated woofer in your first post .

    Hi Rob!

I don't know if my thread can be of any help, but I'm very pleased with what I've got.
