    811b mounted verticaly

    Has anyone ever mounted an Altec 811b verticaly,instead of horizontal. How did it sound?-Rudy

    I would be curious to see how it sounds. Have to watch the directivity on them. They get very directional in the vertical axis so I would imagine that the sweet spot could be much smaller than in a typical set-up. Why don't you give it a shot and tell us??

    Me too. I'm working on a setup that includes a pair of 511Bs and was planning on seeing what that sounded like oriented vertically.

    Not easily done

    I tried years ago to do that and found that the crossover I wanted to use (1200hz) was to high to integrate to the 15" LF driver below.

    I might try again since I just picked up a pair of Altec 511B horns and will try and put phenolic diaphram drivers on it to run it at 600hz and maybe a tweeter horn on top.

    Right now I have too many non-audio(I'm broke!) priority tasks that need attention, but maybe next month I can start on it.
