    Best driver for 4530?

    Hi

I got two 4530 cabs, currently with E145 drivers.

I guess there are better drivers for these cabs, but which is the best?

    You have the best driver

The E145 is one of JBL's best drivers.

If You want to swap them: make a deal with me

    JBL recommended 2205, then 2225.
My experience with those cabs is they are quite forgiving about the driver used. E145 maybe more linear and smooth, 2225 maybe more efficient and fast.
    Depends on what you like.

The 2225 in a 4530 is punchy like hell

What are those? 2033? They look like a 20xx serie with deep cone and 3" VC.

I have an offer to buy a pair of E140 and a pair of E140 reconed as 2225. E140 is closer to 2205 than 2225. If the price is right I will get all four of them :-)

The 2225 is the successor of the 2205, it is better IMHO. JBL never recommended the 2225 for use in the 4520/4530 only because they stopped manufacturing those before starting the 2225.
E140 reconed as 2225 will be very close to a real 2225.

The 2205A was replaced by the 2205H which was replaced by the 2225H

They look like first generation E145-8's to me, with the pleated/treated paper surrounds.

Wasn't the 2205 a bit deeper yet tighter than the 2225? And with lower power handling obviously...

There maybe some tonal differences, and what pleases one doesn't automatically please the other but technically speaking, the 2225 was an upgrade to the 2205, just like the 2226 is an upgrade to the 2225.
They serve the same purpose, they were designed for the same use, the switchover was made between 1980 and 1982.
In the 1980 catalog the lineup is for the 15" drivers: 2205, 2220 and 2231.
    In 1982 it's 2225, 2220 and 2235.

The 2220 stays for many years after that since it's a different driver with different purpose, but the 2235 and 2225 takes over the 2231 and 2205.

There are also differences between the 2205A and the 2205H
