No preamp. The Shanling CDP has a variable gain out, so it feeds the amp direct.

Literally just picked up an MC240 and an MX110 tuner/preamp from a guy cleaning out a house. They are in about the shape your 240 was in. Nice idea to paint the chassis.

Paid $300 USD for them an hour after the craigslist ad went up.

I had a Fisher 400c years ago the idiotically sold. I'm really thrilled to have a tube hi-fi again. Looks like I need a variable voltage source, some components, tubes and elbow grease!

So, found some tubes I needed from my box and the box of a friends and then put the kt66s from my fender twin into the mc240 and we are cooking with tubes! The clean up is ongoing but we ran it for two hours straight and its only sounding better every minute. Didnt use a variac, just cleaned everything up, put in the missing tubes and powered it up for two mins and listened and smelled and then brought it up for 5 then 10 then 20 and so on. Super happy. Tomorrow we put both in the main room and compare with the main rig. Big fun.

    Excellent find!

What kind of KT66 are you running in the 240, are they older Genelex or new production? If you want a set of the correct tubes (6l6GB or 7027A), drop me a line. Off the top of my head, I seem to remember that the KT (kinkless tetrode) 66 has a much different bias point than the 6l6 variants ,so will not be running optimally in the 240. It won't sound bad, it just won't sound as good as it could! Good luck with it!!! thanks, Paul

They are a matched quad shuguang kt66. I have a matched pair of winged c 6l6gc and a some other 6l6gc. I will try those. How should I install two matched pairs?
