    McIntosh MC240 rebirth

With the C50's coming together, I decided to spend some time on an old MC240 I picked up from a guy who had it in his outdoor shed for years. From around 1962 and intact but very neglected as you can see from this picture.

Here is the after picture. I cleaned the insides with flux stripper and a brush. The outside was bead blasted and repainted. The MC240 emblem was hand polished.

I love the color. Reminds me of the old Sansui gear.

    Nice work!

It is actually a Ford truck dark red toreador paint. Painting allowed me to clean it up without totally disassembling the amp, which I would have had to install a new chrome chassis.

I still need to update the power supply but again simplier and cheaper than buying a collectors original version.

This is for my C50 Olympus speakers. I'm still a few weeks away from completing them.

    Thumbs up Very cool!

Nice work. Is it a A/B or class A? Which tubes does it use?

It is A/B and came from the factory with 6L6GC to get the 2 x 40 watts (thus the name MC240). However it can run 7027A that raises it's output to almost 60 watts per channel.

I figured it may have been 6L6's. NOS 7027A's are hard to find. I have four 7027a's in my Ampeg guitar amp, plus a nos spare.

I cant believe someone would let that languish in a shed of all places, you sure did a nice job on it though. Thanks for sharing, would love to see some pictures when all the tubes are is place. What are the rest of the tube compliment?

Yeah, I have a lot of stuff in my shed but no electronics or speakers! Empty cabinets, yes.

Not having a power switch to me is a PITA. So, I moved the fuse inside the chassis and installed a vintage push button power switch in its place. I figured if the fuse blows you should open it up anyway. That and the switch looks like it came that way.
