I would be careful, Sonic Frontiers has been out of production since 2002. Some of the transports go back to 1995.

Many older lasers and optical assemblies are failing. Parts can be hard to obtain or unobtainable for a lot of nice, older units.

I am sure there are many contradictory opinions on this, but my feeling based on my experience thus far is that the transport makes very little sonic difference... the sonics are almost all in the DAC and associated analog sections in my opinion. Beyond that I second the cautions above, but not just about Sonic Frontiers... every older digital device from virtually every manufacture has very limited support. This is one reason that companies who pride themselves in product and customer support like Bryston and Pass Labs have had very minimal forays into the digital domain.

Demands of the marketplace... TiDome notwithstanding.

I got their fancy machined faceplates right here

I must agree with Widget and "10" though that the older stuff should be approached with caution.

    Thanks Gents ,

you have made a lot of sense ..... it was the price that piqued my curiosity $ 650 . There is a lot of SF gear around at the moment .

I have a nice little DAC and just wanted a spinner with a solid build and easy on the eye . Something interesting to look at would be nice .

I was hoping not to add redundant circuits to the signal, hence the transport idea.

Some have suggested the TASCAM stuff as a possibility ,but I'm not sure about slot loading thing ?

The worst investment possible is old digital.
