Awww - that's just so sad. About 6 months after I showed up here, when I started dinking with the 4320 monitors, he sent me a kit of a T-amp, a pair of selenium drivers and horns, JBL/UREI M552 crossover, various extras and a comp network to play with. I didn't ask him to, and there was no charge, he didn't know me from anything except the forum, but he knew it would open my eyes about this gear, so he opened his heart and trusted me enough to send a package cross country for a month of trials!
He just loved to share the fun of learning about all of this ... I saw him share his enthusiasm with folks all over the place here, and at AKharma ...

What a darned shame he's gone!

    Thank you, Evan!
    Peace be with you.

    Sad News.....

I, too, thought the thread title was a joke.
I learned a lot from his postings here.
    Thank you, Zilch.
    Rest in peace, Zilch.

He was a gentleman and a scholar. I highly doubt any of us will forget his drive, passion and generosity. Rest in peace Evan.

It's all been said by others much better than I can say it. Evan touched a lot of people and made the world a better place.

He left us way too soon, but as long as we are alive, he will remain with us. His memory lives on in all of us - and in all the other people whose life he touched.

I too am shocked. The man had a passion with audio and as Heather said he would open up without question to those who had that same passion. He will be missed today and tomorrow.

    Very sad news. RIP Zilch.

Zilch helped me when I was investigating a used pair of JBL 4430s a few years back by patiently answering questions in some unsolicited PMs that I sent to him. I am listening to them "stupid loud" tonight in his honor.

I'm just now finishing the DIY 4430's that I based on the Q&D version of the 3134 crossover. They will be done in a few days, I'll be sure to run them up to stupid once they are complete. I've already had the 2235's up to "painful" to break in the suspension, but have yet to hit "stupid loud".

So long Evan, and thanks for all the data... We'll try to keep the wank level down to a dull roar.

Very sad news. His advice, opinions, appreciation of JBLs and tweaking them to make them sound even better - and willingness to share all of that with us - will be greatly missed.

Tomorrow after the kids are off to school I will be cranking Dire Straits' "Sultans of Swing" on the JBLs at stupid loud volume.

    rest in music...
